Aria tutti

““Aria Tutti” is the title Bach gave to the final chorus in Köthener Trauermusik (Klagt, Kinder, klagt es aller Welt). This chorus is wider known for The St. Matthew Passion (Matthäus-Passion) piece, the meaning of which changes slightly because of the initial controversial genre description. ‘Aria’ is something deeply personal, and ‘tutti’ belongs to everyone and is expressed by all. Imagine, the most recognised lines from Pushkin poem going - “a magic moment we remember” (we instead of I). I enjoy balancing on the borderline – between the chorus and solo, structure and passion, contrast and likeness, etc. It is in these grey zones, which challenge the very fact of duality existence, that I tried to navigate my music, like a submarine.”
