How I spent the summer

for ensemble, audio and video

""How I spent the summer” — these are reflections on the past, the present, the fact that you own your own house, the way you perceive yourself, your surroundings, and any ties that you may have. The title of the piece of music accurately reflects the circumstances underpinning its creation — and to some extent its substance. I rarely ever come home — to the places where I spent my childhood. However, this summer I returned to Cherepovets. This piece is as it were an accumulated recollection of the past and present. The work is autobiographical: one of the most important heroes of “How I spent the summer” is a video which combines material filmed in Cherepovets in July 2021 with a digital artefact from our home archive — a 25-year-old VHS recording filmed in the 1996 summer holidays. Work on this piece started in the summer in Russia, and was completed in October back in Berlin."
